    "One day," Arthur murmured as he tightened the final knot and held Merlin closer, pulling him back into his lap, "you'll understand that you don't need to fight anymore."
    Merlin looked at him, his neck stretched to the limit, "And if I never understand?"
    Arthur ran his thumb over his cheek. The same cheek where Merlin could still feel the tiny scar under his fingertips, where he had been struck just once.
    "Then I'll have all of eternity to teach you."
