When Sasuke woke up that night, he noticed Naruto was gone. And a second later, he heard a squeaking sound so quiet, he would have missed it if he hadn’t been listening for it. It was the sound of the front door opening. Without thinking, he got up to follow. What he witnessed truly made the journey worth it. Even in the dark, Naruto was glowing. His white robe was reflecting fragments of moonlight as he lit two sticks of incense.
After a moment of stillness, Naruto picked up a knife, and as he often did, he sliced two long cuts into the palms of his hands. Sasuke swallowed roughly, he wanted to child-proof Naruto but he didn’t plan on getting caught. That was until he saw it. The grey smoke from the incense plummed into a large cloud before settling into the distinct figure of a person. A ghost.
“It’s all very legal,” Naruto suddenly assured.

My throat tightens. "Does that mean there's something wrong? Are you sick?"
Rocky makes a gesture I usually interpret as "not exactly". "Not sick," he says. "But doctors still worry. When Eridian start to make fewer eggs, this usually means laying period of life is over soon. Rocky very young for this. Rocky supposed to be in ideal time of life for laying. Rocky younger than Adrian, even." He shifts on three of his feet. Already, my mind is racing ahead, wondering -- "Doctors told Rocky to ask Grace, is this radiation side effect, question?"
