Summary
When bullets fly on the beach in Cuba things go a little differently. Instead of the bullet hitting Charles' spine it hits him firm in the chest killing him.
When a distraught Erik is given an opportunity to bring the love of his life back. He realizes he can't say no. Thus he's going back in time to try again.
Or
Charles dies in Cuba after getting shot and Erik goes back in time to try and save his lovers life.
