When John was eight years old Arthur ran away from the gang and left for college, thinking he could escape whatever hellhole they currently lived at and make a better future for himself.

Or a modern setting AU in wich college drop out Arthur! comes back to the gang full of debts after trying to become a teacher, and maybe John ends up learning one or two things from him, mostly good ones.
