When Carson Shaw unintentionally takes a job typing letters for an advice columnist in a women's magazine, she is offered a glimpse into the lives of women from all across the country. Although her conservative boss refuses to respond to any problems which might be deemed inappropriate or immoral, Carson cannot help but connect with the readers who have poured out their hearts in hopes of being helped. The work brings some of her own fears to the fore and, with her husband away fighting in the war, she finds herself plagued with doubt over her marriage and her future.
When she secretly replies to some of the forbidden letters, she inadvertently begins a conversation with a fascinating stranger who might just change the course of her whole life...

Carson had always loved Greta. From the first moment they’d met, Carson knew this was the woman she wanted to spend her life with. It was Carson’s belief that their love could survive anything, in any time, across any universe. She’d bet her life on it. Until the 2007 Writers’ Strike.
Fast forward to the 2023 strike and their world is different and yet weirdly familiar. Carson lives nearby to Greta, to help make co-parenting run smoothly. Greta has joined the Writer’s Guild and has a bit more understanding of the stance Carson took during the 2007 strike. Their little girl is now a 17-year-old young woman and soon to head off to college.
With the present seeming to mirror the past, Carson and Greta start to wonder if this strike they can fix the issues that broke them apart during the last one, regaining that old feeling.

Greta Gill was always so worried about what could happen to her. She lived a good life. So much so that her worries had manifested into a good career as a project manager and quality control consultant for organizations and corporations. She could anticipate everything that might go wrong and help them mitigate all of those issues.
It brought her a great deal of wealth and acclaim.
But it also left her feeling like she was missing out on life. For some reason, always worrying about what was around the next corner didn’t leave much room for actually living.
This brought Greta to the conclusion that it was time to put together a list.
(Or an AU in which Greta decides to take up skydiving to get the thrill of living despite her fears.)
