Desperate to bury his anger and guilt by becoming a hero, Colin became the infamous Scarlet Pimpernel, the enigmatic leader of a league of gentlemen rescuing innocent people from the clutches of the guillotine. Meanwhile, Penelope was caught between her past and her future, between her husband who has become a stranger and the life she led during the beginnings of the Revolution.

Summary
Colin, estranged from his new bride Penelope after learning of her betrayal and the subsequent execution of a friend, nearly lost himself to despair. Rather than surrender to heartbreak and rage, he found a new purpose, donning the mantel of the Scarlet Pimpernel and dragging his brothers along for the ride.
Yet soon the Bridgerton trio find themselves back home at a ball where the entirety of the ton is gossiping about the phantom hero! Colin, feeling lost and aggravated by the attention, oscillates between pining for his wife and trying not to react to the outlandish things the men and women of the ton have to say about his secret alter ego. And just why is Lady Danbury looking at him like she knows something she should not?
A companion chapter to my ongoing Scarlet Pimpernel AU, focusing on the events detailed in chapter 7’s Whistledown column. Don’t need to read that to understand this, but some knowledge of the Pimpernel be it movie, book, or musical would probably help.
