Jayce blinked once. He blinked again. There was the sun, and clouds, and when Jayce ran his hand over his cheeks, there was barely any stubble.
(Jayce and Viktor find themselves in the past, just a few hours before a group of Undercity kids broke into Jayce's lab and sparked a chain of events that would later end the world. They get a second shot at preventing it, and, maybe, creating something better in its place.)

Jayce was supposed to go back home. He'd seen Piltover and the whole world as he knew it become a dystopic wasteland, and the only way he could prevent that from happening is if he stopped Viktor.
So how the hell was he supposed to do that when he was only sent to a reality that /looked/ like his own? How was he supposed to stop Viktor when this man who shared his name and face had absolutely nothing to do with him?

He stares at the mask with a foreign feeling in his chest.
Maybe the Universe is mocking him. Maybe this isn’t a second chance, but instead an elaborate scheme to make him feel annoyed and guilty.“If you’re going to be climbing up the ventilation system, you need some protection for that pretty face of yours,” Mel explains, tapping her chin. “Also, the proper reaction is, still, saying thank you.”
Viktor scowls at her.
“Relinquish the flesh!” She exclaims, ignoring his annoyance; a joyful smile on her face.
Maybe he should've just died when he had the chance to.
Or: Death is supposed to be final, or so Viktor thought; because if it is, then why had he woken up in his childhood bedroom?
Or; after the finale, rather than dying, Viktor is spat out back in the past. Ridden with guilt, he decides to change the outcome of his fate. He helps people along the way.
