The strange girl blinked, sniffing a little. Her nose scrunched like she smelled something so awful, she had to take a step back and find where is was coming from. He watched her eyes scanning him, then she scanned the car—freezing on the second half. Whatever cinch was keeping her lips puckered, suddenly snapped.
She rolled her lips together, glancing down at her feet. “He’s there in the back seat, isn’t he?”
For a moment, Sam paused, uncertain whether he wanted to explain—much less remember—what it was that had gotten him into this mess. With everything that has happened, the last thing he wanted to do was remember how alone he was in the world. But this girl, she knew about the hunting life...maybe, just maybe…he could trust this girl with his loss.
