Tom wouldn't be called grateful often. It was always nice, charming, handsome- sometimes it was terrifying, harsh and cruel. Yet Tom could be grateful. It was unusual and only for those people who earned it but it did happen.
Tom felt his cold, unmoving heart clench as he picked gently at Hermione's curls. They were unruly, all over the place and noticeable, just like the person who had it.
Tom pinched the hairstrand that he was running his finger on, resisting the urge to pull. He needed the perfect gift- and he will get it, even if he had to dirty his hands in the process of it.
