Summary
Zelda has resigned herself to a dingy office in a basement of the Museum of Hyrule, but her complacency is interrupted by Ganon, a tech investor who demands access to the institution’s collection. As Zelda investigates the objects of his interest, she discovers that some of the obscure holdings in underground storage are more than mere relics. The museum hides a secret that should perhaps remain buried, but Ganon is relentless in his pursuit. Despite her better judgment, Zelda finds herself drawn along with him into the mystery of the archives.

Flowery knew the type of anime Asgore watched in his overstuffed chair, and he knew the other type of anime Asgore watched after dark when he was frustrated with his notes. He knew what had happened during Asgore’s last night at college, and he knew what Asgore liked. It was just a matter of getting him to admit it.

While debugging the Highwind’s navigation system, Cid sees the reflection of an uncanny face in the glow of the monitor. It’s the asscrack of night, Shinra wants him dead, and now he’s alone with a monster in the empty airship corridors. But if that monster is who he thinks it is, Cid figures he might as well track it down. Since they’re both awake anyway, maybe the thing can help him fix the damn computer.

Summary
“For what it’s worth,” he said, “I haven’t been able to rest since we arrived here. Not just this cavern, but—” Sighing, Cecil gestured to his surroundings. “I cannot tell if this is Zemus’ doing, but I assumed I overcame these doubts and regrets. It’s as if I never healed to begin with. No turning back now, I suppose.”
Silence thickened between them. Edge fidgeted while Kain averted his gaze. Cecil frowned. Maybe he was losing his mind, at long last, and only he suffered whatever insanity was—
“You’re not alone, unfortunately.” Kain met his frantic stare. “What dwells here... it mirrors Golbez’s magic. I fear it will worsen as we descend.”
“Fantastic,” Edge deadpanned. “Can’t wait to deal with more of whatever that is.”
Camping in the depths of the Lunar Subterrane rouses fear and doubt in Cecil. Bad news? He's not alone in experiencing that. Good news? Also still not alone.

Bookmarker's Notes
This story is a brilliant narrative exploration of how the supernatural might occupy the cracks of a political landscape fractured by faultlines. It’s got everything: economic immiseration, rural depopulation, failed gentrification, data centers built on top of marginalized communities, grassroots activism, cults – and toxic romance! The horror is quiet and insidious, but it will definitely creep up and get you at the end. I’ve read dozens of professionally published takes on the shadowed seaside town of Innsmouth, and this story rises tail-and-fins above all of them. Even if you’re not familiar with the mythos, I’d invite you to dive in anyway, as this is contemporary gothic fiction at its finest. Joyce Carol Oates would be proud.
