Summary
There wasn't time for the companions to deal with Cazador. Astarion had made his peace with that when he had taken down Gortash and Orin in a righteous fury. He knew that what had happened was the right thing to have happened. He had lived in freedom for a while; that was more than he was expecting, to be honest.
What he wasn't expecting, however, was how he now reacted to Cazador.
Astarion navigates his return to being a spawn, and his friends adjust to him being gone. The charismatic leader, the glue that held the group together, gone. They'll never see him again and they grieve.
Then Withers drags them back to Baldur's Gate.

Summary
Astarion is fine - he really is just fine, thank you very much. He wants to do his job, do his best to bully his brain into submission each night so he can get a good night's sleep, and stay firmly under everyone's radar. He does not want to work with his irritatingly cheery and dull colleague - Gale Dekarios - on a stupid and meaningless project.
Alas, the universe - or at least Blackstaff Academy - has different ideas.
OR: Gale and Astarion are both tired, traumatised, and undervalued teachers at Blackstaff Academy and, eventually, Gale worms his way under every single one of Astarion's defences.

Summary
The shape of his tower loomed in the distance, not so tall as to be imposing on the skyline, but still visible from where he was, several blocks away. With the full moon behind, it pierced the night sky like a needle, windows darkened for the first time in years. How could one not feel regret? Over three decades spent in shadow while his beloved city was bathed in music, color, and light, and now that he finally had the courage to step out once more, he was all but pressed against the nearest wall, watching pensively as revelers danced their way down brightly lit streets.
With a shake of his head, he broke out of the spiral once more.
We deserve this.
They deserved this.
There's no denying that Gale and Astarion met under... strange circumstances, so what better time than Lliira's Night to meet as strangers and treat each other to something sweet and ordinary? For day 7 of Bloodweave Week - Masquerade & Stargazing
