Professor Marx turned his back to them to begin writing on the chalkboard, and he felt another paper ball hit the back of his head. Bloody git, Vanessa.
“The first curse we’ll be talking about,” Professor Marx said as he wrote, “is Imperius.”
Finral felt like he’d been struck by lightning. His posture was suddenly perfectly straight, befitting of an Heir to a Noble and Ancient House. He couldn’t see his own face, but he was absolute sure that the blood had drained from it entirely. Vanessa was still engrossed in making another paper ball, and didn’t notice, while Grey was distracted by Gauche’s rant about Marie. Finral couldn't see what Gordon and Charmy were doing, but he doubted they noticed either.
Finral began drumming his fingers on his desk to give himself something to do.

In which Finral did not, in fact, realize that the Unforgivable curses were Unforgivable.
A what-if in a Hogwarts universe, if Finral and Langris's parents were just a bit more mean, cruel, and were willing to go just that much farther.

Asahi’s bottom lip trembles. It’s the most vulnerable she’s ever seen her brother before. There is no confidence or nonchalance in him here. This is not her brother, it’s someone else—surely someone else. Asahi leans into their father and embraces him.
“I love you too,” he says back. It’s the loudest thing in the room.
Suddenly, Iroha envies her brother. She envies the crook of his nose and the blink of his eyes. She envies the colour of his iris’ and the curve of lips. The fluff of his hair, the slope of his neck, the boom of his chest.
Iroha envies her brother and the sound of his voice.
