    There was a bakery box on the sawhorses supporting the skillsaw, with several of Phil’s coworkers gathered around it. Phil headed over, wiping plaster-covered hands on his overalls.

    “Hey Phil.” Foolish held a half-eaten double-chocolate cookie studded with caramel. “There’s snacks!”

    “Alright.” Phil pulled the box close. “Where’re they from?” He raised his eyebrows at the blank cardboard. “Doesn’t say.”

    “They were just fucking here when we got here.” Tubbo carefully picked a few raisins out of his oatmeal spice one and then took a big bite. “Good, though.”

    Phil gestured around the group. “So, not to point out the obvious, but—what if these are from a fae bakery?”

    OR: Slice of life in an Urban Fantasy world, and then going home together.

    When he carried out the familiar motions, nothing happened. The stone stayed put, perfectly in one piece.

    “Fuck.” Tommy cursed under his breath. “This isn’t the time. You gotta be good for something, don’t waste all your studying.” He muttered, raising his hands and trying again.

    Still, nothing happened.

    With wide, surprised eyes, Tommy tried again and again, growing more frantic by the second. The spell wasn’t working. Worse yet, he couldn’t even feel his magic straining to escape, in the way it usually did when he was practicing. He couldn’t feel anything, not at all. The familiar buzzing was gone.

    What the fuck was going on? Was his magic faulty? Was his new immune system faulty? Was Tommy faulty?

    Fae weren’t supposed to get sick. Fae weren’t supposed to have no magic at all.

    Tommy, a human newly turned into a fae, gets sick. His magic stops working as a result and he assumes he must be faulty.

    Phil and Techno assure him that he’s wrong and that Tommy has a family who’s willing to help him whenever he needs it.

    Grian knew a lot of things.

    He knew how to cook for a crew of 60 people. He knew how to clean and scrub the deck until his arms went numb. He knew how to avoid being the crew's punching bag for the night. He knew when to shut up and do what he was told.

    But most importantly — he knew not to hope.

    Because hoping hurts.

    So when a battle ends and an unfamiliar man steps into the kitchen, grinning at him like he’s not just another piece of plunder, Grian doesn’t know how to react. And when he’s led onto the deck to meet the pirate captain — the man who now holds his fate in his hands — he braces himself for another cage. Instead, a dangerous flicker of something he told himself he’d never feel again rears its head for the first time in years.

    Hope.

    "Wow. You get arrested for villainy once and everyone immediately assumes the worst of you!" Tommy complains sarcastically. "That's prejudice. You're a bad person for that, Phil."

    or: rehabilitated villain Tommy wants to embrace his new role in helping the heroes improve their system, but he can't fully let go of his brother, Techno, despite him still being a villain. The only logical solution, of course, is to get Techno to join the heroes, too.
