Summary
It isn't unusual for one of us to mess with the other's hair a bit but it tends to catch her off guard when she doesn't see it coming. She lifts her head slightly and I take it as permission. I maneuver her hair out from underneath her and begin combing it out with my fingers.

Summary
Infected are dying, the news says.
Bodies slumping to the ground, curling into a foetal position, the human hosts finally at rest. The fungus continuing to grow, forming a silhouette of the old host when the body finally crumbles into the embrace of the earth, fungal cups and caps and oddest of all, spires reaching towards the sky. Like how humans reached for the stars before she was born. The world is changing once again. Ellie talks to the fungus in her brain.
One day it talks back.
