Summary
Taehyun just wanted to continue to play his instrument once he’d graduated. Cue his best friend Kai Kamal Huening, who offered for Taehyun to join his small band once they graduated. A year later, Taehyun sat nervously in their basement studio, warming up his own instrument.
“Who are we waiting for?”
“Our guitarist, he should be here soon..” Kai muttered.
The moment he made eye contact with said guitarist, Taehyun felt his heart rate skyrocket immediately. He doesn’t know what he anticipated upon meeting any of Kai’s bandmates, but he hadn’t expected to meet probably the prettiest man he’s met in his life.
Or, Taehyun joins his friend’s jazz band, not expecting to fall in love with the guitarist and sort of curate a friends with benefits situation.

“Our students have been nagging me all morning,” Beomgyu huffed, marching over to Taehyun’s desk. “They keep asking me what I have planned for my husband’s big day. Why didn’t you tell me today was your birthday??”
Taehyun rolled his eyes in faux disappointment. “Wow, my beloved husband doesn’t even know when my birthday is? I think I need to file for divorce.”
Beomgyu let out a dramatic gasp. “That’s not fair! Look, I even got something for you.” He pulled out a banana nut muffin from behind his back, topped with a lopsided dollop of whipped cream that Taehyun’s positive he saw a bottle of in the communal fridge by the teacher’s lounge. A half-melted candle sat in the middle, flame burning a bright orange. It was a mess of a makeshift birthday cake, but it was perfect in Taehyun’s eyes.
“This was supposed to be my breakfast, but I really can't handle a divorce right now. So, happy birthday, jagiya.”
(OR: Taehyun and Beomgyu’s students come up with a ridiculous theory that their two favorite teachers are secretly married. It starts off as a running joke between the two, but somewhere along the line, the boundary between pretend and reality starts to blur.)

Summary

Summary
The true origin of the soulmate system is, for lack of a more delicate phrasing, a crapshoot. In the modern day, the majority of people only share a link with their soulmate as far as what is written on the skin.

“Forgot my stupid fucking-” Taehyun cuts himself off with a gasp, staring down at his wrist. “Oh my god.”
“What, what's wrong?” Kai asks, but Taehyun doesn't bother trying to put together a verbal response because his best friend is already moving to see what he's looking at. Kai lets out an honest to god screech, and if Taehyun weren't slowly but surely losing his sanity, he would have complained.
Kai realizes this, too, reaching out to gently touch his fingers to the spot just below the writing and call Taehyun's attention back to planet earth.
“You okay?” He asks. Taehyun looks up at him, blinking his face back into focus, and shakes his head. Before he can be asked for elaboration, he reaches for his phone and types in the phone number with shaky fingers.
