Summary
A second of silence passes as Newgate and Makino stare at each other. Newgate knew she was doing her job, caring for Luffy, and making sure that he was safe. But he couldn't help but feel a little offended. He would be a fool to risk his Family.
"Say what you must, but I assure you I love my family rather than being a fool who would endanger them.” He smiles. “Luffy is safe and welcome here.”
For now, that’s enough for Makino to hear.
or Luffy's parents die and Garp is given custody. After Garp gets arrested for abuse, Luffy gets bounced around in the foster system. Eventually he makes it to Newgates.

"What did you just say?" Luffy's voice was pitched low but seemed to roar through the packed space.
"I said that me and my crew need to celebrate! We took down that old man who is supposedly the first mate of that Red-Haired Yonko, such a poor excuse of a pirate, the captain must be ashamed to have an old man like that on his crew if he was alone." The captain chuckled, not noticing the tension those words had just created. "Wot's his name, Bentham? Brockman? Ah! Beckman!"

Sanji nods furiously. “Exactly. The morons aren’t in love, they’re just stupid enough to be on a wave length no one else can reach.”
“What?” Chopper’s eyes shine. “Sanji, you don’t think they belong together? They act like soulmates!”
“Chopper,” Sanji pats his head. “They can’t be soulmates. Not when the marimo has the emotional range of a sea slug.”
The bickering continues. Nami takes a sip of her drink, lips curling in amusement. They really are naive. And Nami can’t help but take advantage of the naive: especially when there’s beli to be made.
“I think we should make this interesting,” Nami announces. “Since you guys can’t agree, let’s have a friendly bet. Everyone puts in and whoever’s right gets the pot.” All of them glance around at each other before back at Nami. She smiles at them. “If you’re going to fight about it, at least make it interesting.”(or, Luffy and Zoro have been married for years. But, with all that beli on the line, Nami isn't about to tell the rest of their nakama that)

"Coyote? Didn't think it would be you." Roger asked surprised but shrugged with a grin. It had been two years since his sons snuck Coyote off of Newgate’s ship and healed them, helping him adjust to a missing hand and the scarring across his face. It would be great to see how that teen had grown, was he more like his mother or Newgate perhaps?
A huff of a laugh escaped the darkness, followed by a deeper voice. "No, I'm not Baba."
Shanks jerked forward as Luffy, his son, older and taller, but he’d know his kid anywhere no matter the age, stepped into the ring of firelight, a wide D grin stretched across his face, straw hat sat firmly on his head. "Anchor!?""Hi Mãe." Luffy replied, still grinning and with a small wave.
