Summary
Astarion meant to let that be that. He turned heel and walked toward camp, expecting Gale to fall in step behind him. It was always so easy to predict the wizard's actions. Always easy to tell what he would do next.
But then again…
“What about you, Astarion?”
There was always room for surprises.
“If that’s true, what am I to you, then?” Gale’s voice was soft. Vulnerable.
Astarion hated vulnerable things.
---
Astarion had been forced into absolute obedience. Gale was expected to provide absolute subservience. It was all they knew for so long, that bereft of their masters they had nothing else.
They try to find something else on their journey, and begrudgingly finding something else in each other.

Summary
“Seduction?” Gale sputtered. “You think me capable of seduction!?”
“Don’t sell yourself short, my boy,” Elminster said, “seduction is only the first step. You’ll be a vampire’s consort by the end of Nightal, or my name isn’t ‘Elminster Aumar’!”
“Oh, this is going to be good,” one of the Sages whispered, and Gale was mortified to feel his face flush a deep red.

Summary
He's better than Ormund at many things, always has been. Dueling (not grappling, never grappling), riding (but not hunting), humility over pride.
Over the many years, he's learned that throwing the fight has a better outcome than beating his lordly cousin in any competition.
Ormund is the Head of Hightower House, after all. Sometimes the knee must be bent.
------------------------------------
"He was awful to you, earlier." Daeron looked distinctly uncomfortable as they sat together in what now passed for Gwayne's room in Tumbleton, a chess board between them. His nephew was wringing his hands as though they were wet rags and Daeron a washerwoman. "Those things he said..."{The false empathic look, paired with 'I'm sure you found solace with some of your brothers in arms'}
Gwayne stared at the floor, counting the cracks he found there. "Put it from your mind, Daeron. It was meant to humiliate me, not you. Long has he missed throwing his knives at me, in my absence. That is all that was. His idea of fun. A warm welcome home, if you will."
