"Listen, my sons," the mother whispered, her voice soft but full of ancient weight. The firelight flickered, casting shadows that danced on the walls. "There was a time, long ago, when light and shadow were at war. The world was torn, neither could live without the other, but both feared what the other could bring."
She paused, her eyes darkened by the flames. "Sometime soon, a being of light will rise from the dawn, pure and bright, and a being of shadow, born from the darkest night, will emerge." She sighed, a sadness in her voice. "They won't truly meet, not for centuries. One will burn too brightly, the other will hide too deep."
Her gaze shifted to her sons, their eyes wide, entranced by the tale. "But one day, when the world teeters on the edge of ruin, the light and shadow will meet. Not as enemies, but as two halves of a whole." She smiled, though there was a trace of longing in her expression. She brushed her fingers across the youngest boy's temple. "And when they do, the world will be at peace again. Balance will reign, and the dark times will end."
She let the silence hang in the air, the crackle of the fire filling the space. "They are always meant to find each other."
