Summary
His mum held Nathaniel down as she let the chemicals soak into his eyes.
It burned, different to how his shoulder did when father pressed the iron to it years ago. His shoulder had burnt with a searing heat that he could not escape; bright and all encompassing. Afterwards it felt like pulsing coals against his skin; a never-ending throb of burning pain that pulled and demanded his attention. Nathaniel had grown used to pain over the years. He was able to keep quiet when his father or one of his friends put their blades to his skin. Nathaniel had gotten used to preparing himself for pain whenever he saw his father or Lola in particular.
Maybe that was why the pain felt so much worse this time.

Summary
It’s been two months since he burnt his mother’s body and then buried her bones on a random beach in California, but every night he felt like it had only been hours. Nightmares were mixing with his grief and kept him up at night.
He wondered how long he would survive.
PING!
Neil stilled, scarcely breathing. It sounded like an elevator, or maybe like an alert in a hospital. Like a notification chime. Neil kept his body tensed, ready for whatever made that noise.
‘Error initialising.’
He’s gone insane. The little sleep he’s managed and his grief have converged and melted his brain, because there’s no other explanation for Neil to be seeing words in front of his face right now. “What the fuck?” Neil breathed quietly.
Two months - two months and he’s gone insane without his mother’s harsh guidance. -

Neil’s hand was an angry red, the skin already starting to bubble on his fingers where it had obviously made brief contact with the iron somehow. Andrew swore, and then reached out to take his wrist gently, steering him towards the sink and turning the tap on.
“Breathe, Neil.” He squeezed the man’s neck, but Neil wasn’t listening to him, too busy staring at his hand in horror. Andrew was painfully aware of the other Foxes gazes on them, and he turned to growl at them.
“Get a fucking first aid kit.”
