Summary
A shared interest in the arcane and a few throwaway fucks was one thing, had mutual benefit, but the sort of secondhand suffering that curled around Essek’s ribcage and currently crippled his ability to speak was the symptom of something else entirely.
Caleb tilted his head to the side, lifting his chin just enough to glance sideways at the drow. The low flame of the torch sconces dispersed just enough dull light through the room to play cruelly over ghost-pale skin and scabbed-over gashes like claw marks so deep that multicolor bruises radiated around them. Divine healing magic only did so much when there wasn’t enough to go around.
During the Mighty Nein’s future in Rosohna, it takes one too many close calls for Essek to separate the political from the personal, and to realize just how personal his relationship with the party’s wizard had become.Bookmarked by SomeAndrea

Summary
Essek is soft. His hands have but two calluses, right where he grips a quill. His skin is smooth and supple, well taken care of and kept away from the elements and the sunlight. Even his feet are soft, largely unused in public and usually at rest when in privacy.
Caleb is rough around the edges, used to battles and scars and pain. His hair is a bit coarser, his hands have heavy calluses all over, and there are bumps and scars all over the freckled skin from the harsh but short life he has led. He’s a beautiful painting, and Essek is a blank canvas. There’s potential there, probably, but without skill there’s doubt he’ll come close to such a masterpiece.
Essek is soft and he cannot deny this.
When he and Caleb were taken from his tower and thrown in a dungeon, halfway to unconscious, he started pulling things from his pockets, frantically. He knew these dungeons, could see the protective wards against divination, teleportation, and other means of contacting help or escaping. He knew they had little chance to survive, and worst of all he knew this was his fault.

Summary
Essek’s eyes flash in recognition. “Caleb, no!”
But it is too late. The platinum cord vanishes in a flash of grey light. The two wizards are bathed in it’s glow long after the binding has disappeared. The thrum of connection hums between them. Two souls vibrating at the same frequency. Together. Essek’s mouth is open in stunned silence and Caleb squeezes his hand. “If you go I go.”
Inspired by the Tethered Essence spell from Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount because it’s SUPER extra.

Summary
It doesn't seem right, Essek thinks, that so brilliant a flame should be capable of vanishing without a trace. There are no venerable halls that will remember the name, no dedications or histories. Perhaps there will be a footnote on him, in Beauregard's writing, amongst the collections of the Cobalt Soul. A small mention of his adventures with the Nein and a nod to their peacekeeping efforts.

Summary
No members of the Cerberus Assembly spoke negatively about Trent Ikithon’s experiments, at least not openly. The mage was brilliant, no one could question that, and sometimes brilliant minds ran in strange channels. Everyone had their hobbies, their little quirks. Maybe they gave an inward sigh when Trent picked more students from the school’s roster for “special training,” knowing that they would probably never be seen again, but it could not be helped. If it meant that someday the Empire could conquer the men and beasts of Xhorhas, could expand their borders, well, then it was worth the lives of a few children. Many such sacrifices were made for the Empire.
