The intruder enters the kitchen slowly, limbs held low to the ground. Their carapace tilts from side to side as they draw near, fixing their auricles on me.
The xenosuit they have on looks cobbled together, almost experimental. It’s not see-through like my team’s suits are. It wasn’t designed with my light detectors in mind. Instead, it’s dark and opaque, and not at all helping to dispel the impression of a masked burglar in my home.
I’ve never seen that body language in person before, but I understand it on an instinctual level. Eridians are the apex predators of their planet. It’s a hunting stance, and I am the prey.

March struggles in his relationship with his daughter and alcohol, while Healy struggles to figure out what exactly he wants for himself, and how much of that involves the March family.

Claire and Court suddenly straighten up, as if they've just been struck by lightning.
"He's not my dad!" Claire scrambles to say.
"She's not my daughter!" Court exclaims at the same time.
OR
Court thought he’d finally found peace. When his twin little brothers, his sister-in-law, and her dog moved in with him and Claire, he finally realized what a home is supposed to feel like.
But life has a way of changing without warning. As one terrible Friday forces everything into perspective, Court may finally have to confront the one truth he’s been refusing to admit.

She laughs. “You're not my dad. You're more like…hm…my really, really weird cousin who has an insane knife collection and doesn't sleep for thirty-six hours straight.”
Six's heart squeezes. No matter what shit she gives him, she's still bestowed on him the title of family.
