Jayce's academic career ends on a sunny day. His research, purpose, and life, are stripped from him in less than an hour, and he is sent on his merry way to build another one from nothing but ashes. There are no pleas the council listens to, there are no golden eyes watching his every move.
Or: Viktor never leaves the Undercity. Jayce is banished on the day of his trial. This, of course, changes a great deal.

Summary
Honestly, Jayce had thought his relationship with his estranged ex-partner couldn't get any worse. He'd watched it crash, burn, and die himself. Hell, he'd pulled the trigger. But of course Viktor would just have to prove him wrong, returning on the eve of his greatest scientific achievement to date. And, goddamn, it does not go how he'd expected. In the bad direction.
As he moves up in the world in the aftermath, hailed as both Piltover’s heroic defender and unmatched genius in the field of hextech (when he only ever wanted to be ONE of those things), he’s hounded by his new/old archnemesis and, even worse, celebrity status. Scarier yet, things with Viktor are still . . . complicated. Just because he can’t seem to bring himself to kill him doesn’t mean there’s any chance they’d ever come back together. Surely not out of necessity after Jayce does something stupid. Right?
