    Summary

Hikaru never returned from his trip up to the mountain, and yet still a presence haunts Yoshiki. Something immaterial, granted, yet perhaps Hikaru’s consciousness is not gone. Somehow, though, the deep religious guilt from growing up in a conservative rural village is too great for Yoshiki to bear, dragging him into a painful emotional spiral.

Hikaru is there, unable to reach out, watching from a liminal plane.

To Yoshiki, this presence is the very deity whose existence and punishment he’d feared all his life. The cross around the village elders’ shrivelled necks; the talks, the prayers, the hymns; all he had cowered before the mention of.

    To Yoshiki this is God.
