Summary
Bucky doesn’t like John Walker.
Let’s get that out of the way. He doesn’t like the way he talks, the way he breathes superiority like it’s earned, or how he carries that mangled shield like it’s anything but a fake.
He hates how John makes it all look like a game—like this life, this country, these sins don’t weigh on him every time he looks in the mirror.
But Bucky's no stranger to hypocrisy. Because he shows up at John’s shitty apartment anyway, hood up, knuckles bruised, pretending the night’s cold even though he doesn’t feel it anymore.
John answers the door in a t-shirt that clings too tightly to his chest and eyes that flicker between confusion and something else—something too close to hope.
“You're cold,” he states, not unkind.
Bucky doesn’t answer.
He just steps inside.

“What?”, Bucky asks because Walker better not be talking about what Bucky thinks he’s talking about or else he’s about to get in the other man’s face.
“Be him”, Walker answers him like what they’re talking about is so casual that he doesn’t really have to think about what he’s saying to Bucky. Bucky thinks he’s insane.
He doesn’t want to have this conversation. Ever.

“Guys like us” Bucky echoes. “Guys like us? I was mindfucked for 70 years, Walker, by the goddamn Nazis. You took the serum and had an international crash out. Guys like us? Fuck off. Your wife left you ‘cos you're an officious asshole. The shit I was made to do? You’d never have survived a second of it”
Walker’s jaw sets. His tongue pushes at the skin below his lip. His eyes go from righteous and pleading to a very dark blue.
“Yeah, you’re right, Barnes. I’m not blessed with such a pretty, fuckable face”

Whoever left the words “don’t meet you heroes”, were absolutely right.
Meeting your heroes is horrible. Trust John Walker on this one. He's been there, He's done it. He's met the James Buchanan Barnes. Now he has to deal with the consequence of falling in love with his hero.
It was a casual thing. A friend with benefit, they told each other. Bucky missed Steve, and John just wanted to be with Bucky.
But no, they couldn't stay that way, every time they had their secret affair they fell deeper and deeper.
However they never admitted their love to each other. In fact, John Walker was sure that the moment one of them did, their whole dreamy relationship would be over. Their arrangement thrived on its delusional foundation. No matter how much they cuddled, no matter how much they cared for each other, they remained to identify themselves as a casual fling at best.
So naturally, John Walker made it his mission never to say the following words: "I love you"
One very messy night, whilst an event no one really knows the truth of, he's said it. Now to make up for it, John Walker decided to run away.

All it takes is the right, light and fleeting touches in certain areas and a breathy quality of voice and speaking just close enough to his ear to have him come undone while still fully clothed. He doesn't even need full on contact or blatant touching below the belt.
I want to see Karen and Foggy double-teaming him and doing this while in the office or somewhere else.
