He steps down from the dais, making deliberate eye contact with me as he says, "You may do as you wish. The angel, after all, does not belong only to me."
My stomach clenches horribly as I realize my mistake. He asked me several times if I would be his angel and I was too upset, too angry to say yes. And now-- now he is leaving me to the mercy of these men, telling them to do as they please with me. I thrash as best I can, fighting my bonds, a horrible sound issuing from my throat as my tears renew with fervor.
