Captain Shirogane’s smile is soft. His wind-chapped lips part, drawing in a half-breath before he speaks. "The way I see it, we have two courses of action. There is the one you are familiar with, which entails a trial in the nearest Coalition court.”
“Followed by an afternoon hanging in the village square,” Keith tacks on, nodding. “Yeah, I’m familiar. What’s my other choice?”
Shirogane clears his throat. “You are a very capable fighter and a natural at the helm. If I were to have my say, you would join my crew.”

Summary
Keith and Lance accidentally get into trouble. Shiro is the TA that has to Deal With It™.
Lance takes this as an opportunity to wingman Keith, everyone wants to put in their two cents and Keith just wants to be left alone (with Shiro).
"You guys aren't stupid," Shiro frowned. "Keith is the top of the class, and you're a close second, right?""Wanna know what else Keith wants to be on top of?" Lance started, and Keith drove his heel into Lance's foot. He kept the pressure there as Shiro looked at them with a confused expression.
"All his other classes," Lance wheezed, and Keith lifted his foot off. "Which is why I was just as surprised as everyone else when he was caught cheating."
"I didn't cheat!" Keith grumbled and Lance stuck out his tongue. "You were caught too!"

“Mm,” Shiro says, looking at Keith, and pauses. “There were… In retrospect there were a lot of signs, yeah. But they were all sort of… I don’t know, it was never anything big and they didn’t show up all at once. It's easy to get used to a little weirdness over time.”
“Wow,” says Keith, drawing out the word. “Thanks. Thanks for that.”
“A little weirdness,” Shiro repeats, deadpan. “A little smartass weirdness who eats through all of your study snacks in one sitting on three separate occasions and then has the audacity to bust eighty percent of your sim records by the time he’s sixteen.”
