It can’t only be that he’s not keen to endure a replacement. That can’t be it, not anymore. He’s going to get himself in trouble, and then it’ll be Aziraphale’s fault.
Crowley’s mouth shuts with a click. He shifts uncomfortably in his seat, reaches for the handle of the fork and taps his fingertips against it before setting his hands in his lap.
When he speaks, it’s very soft. “Don’t you know?” he asks.
Aziraphale, unnaccustomed to his heart refusing to translate why it throbs with such haste, shakes his head.

“Ridiculous,” Lan Zhan retorts.
“One day, the pressure will get too much,” he sniggers, happy to continue with his theory as they walk along. He then stops abruptly and turns to face Lan Zhan, face shifting into something mock-serious, his brows lowering. “One day,” he whispers, in an ominous tone, poking a thankfully non-sticky finger into Lan Zhan’s ribs, “You won’t be able to contain them any more and then–”
He feigns a bite at Lan Zhan’s neck, his teeth clicking together near Lan Zhan’s ear, which suddenly feels a bit warm.
Lan Zhan feels his mouth curl into a smile before he can control it, amused at Wei Ying’s antics. Wei Ying grins brightly in response.
