Jigen didn't have a particular reason to stay in Japan, Lupin hasn't organised a heist yet. Thus, the gunman finds himself (in)voluntarily walking to a town he's familiar with because of a sassy and bratty inhabitant.
When he met the boy, he had a strong suspicion that the brat wasn't ok.
Jigen was right. Conan was slowly dying.

Summary
Shinichi always gets some (and by some he means actually thousands and thousands of yen) money given by his mother as a birthday present. This time, he didn't know what to do with such a large sum, but an innocent comment sends him down a spiral and he makes a choice that he'd never consider under normal circumstances (and in his body, of course). Screw it all, his world was crazy enough already, why not add some spice aswell?
