Jason’s mind was reeling. “Someone can see us?”
He’d tried everything he could think of to get Bruce and Alfred’s attention since he became a ghost. But even physically floating through their bodies hadn’t elicited a response.
She laughed. “Crazy, ain’t it? I don’t know if he’s a meta or what, but all the ghosts are talking about him.”
If there was someone out there who could see ghosts… then maybe…
Jason had to find him. “Who is he?”
“He’s known by many names… Veil Walker… Reaper… Half-Pint.”
Jason sputtered. “Half-Pint??”
“That’s the wildest shit. It’s a kid. Like a middle schooler.” Delilah threw out one of her hands. “And he’s out here wandering Gotham every night and chatting up the dead.”
Jason could only stare at her. Processing. A kid who could see ghosts... What was this? The Sixth Sense: Gotham edition??

“I—” Batman starts, fumbles. “Don’t hurt him, he’s just a child, he doesn’t have anything to do with this.”
Clark looks between them. The alley. The way that Batman has been skirting in the shadows the entire night, trying to get away, before realizing that he couldn’t. He only confronted Clark when he gave up. Oh, Clark realizes, and feels all the anger drain from his body in one sweeping blow, the kid. He thought I was going to hurt him and the kid.
His kid.
AKA: After Lois gets hurt because of something Batman did, Superman goes to Gotham to talk. Bruce, however, is convinced that Superman is here to hurt him. To hurt Robin.

“You dove under a falling building,” Red Hood replied dryly. When Tony only blinked confusedly up at him, he let out a heavy sigh. “You saved a kid.”
Kid? Tony frowned and the memories of a young, crying girl shadowed by falling debris returned to his mind. “Is she okay?” Tony asked immediately, lurching forward.
A strong hand against his chest pushed him back down. “She’s fine,” Red Hood promised. “I got her out. Now stay still so I can hack into your comms.”
“Okay,” Tony relented. He then bolted up again. “What?!”Or,
Jason was pulled out of the debris from his confrontation with Batman and the Joker with a scar across his neck and a bleeding heart. And at seventeen, he decided to move on from the city and the people that gave and took so much. Instead, he barrels into New York City and finds himself a new family (or two).

Summary
As Christmas approaches, Jay and Penny prepare for the new year. They know that many changes will be coming their way, what with Jay finally starting school in the Spring, but in the meantime they’re grateful for the time they have together.
Not to mention that Jay is getting more outgoing, and after finding an online puzzle and mystery loving community, he can finally claim that he’s made his first real friend.
Or, Jay often finds himself on a puzzle enthusiasts forum and makes a friend. Penny couldn’t be more proud. And, as a bonus, the Team celebrates Christmas.
