Summary
Ryland looked down at his clipboard, where he had written a reasonable script, supplied earlier that day by Adrian. Unfortunately, the moment his eyes landed on the words, his brain supplied only terrible ways to say them.
He chose the worst one.
“I need flowers with prominent reproductive structures.”
The man went completely still.
Ryland could feel his soul attempting to leave his body.
“For a plant anatomy lab,” he added quickly. “For my students. Middle school students. Not–” He cut himself off, because there was simply no end to that sentence that would improve his situation. Instead, he just weakly smiled, and added “Science.”

Summary
The man is not approximate as dream figures often are. He stands at the railing where the pink river slides beneath, dressed in black from collar to boot, dark hair mussed by a wind Hob can’t feel, and every detail of him holds. Holds under a second look, and a third, and nothing ever does, and something at the very back of Hob’s mind lights up in recognition.
Hob stops walking.
The man at the railing doesn't move. He is watching the pink water with a frown, as though it personally offends him, and he is detailed. That's the word that arrives first, before any of the others, before pale and dark and sharp. Detailed, and rendered. Familiar.

Or, there is a stranger in Hob's dream, and Hob could swear he’s seen him before.
