“What’s that?” Husk asks when Angel stays silent, leaning back against the headboard. He takes a long drink from the bottle, throat bobbing, eyes soft in the dim light.
“Whatever happens,” he says, “stay away from the tower. If I’m late gettin’ home, if I don’t come home at all, don’t go lookin’ for me. Don’t come after me.” Angel takes the bottle from Husk’s hand, drains the rest, winces at the bitter taste. “Just stay here an’ wait for me to come back.”
