No contact but a single, call from his father weeks ago now. No word from his friends. No one else.
He survived anyway. Despite the silence. Despite the missing of his left leg. Despite the cruel irony of his own sweet turning against him in waves of allergic shock.
But supplies run out again. They always do.
So Hiccup went out.
That’s when the survivors arrived five large men in scavenged military gear, sweeping the ruins like shadows with rifles and cold eyes.
And Hiccup, clumsyas ever, dropped a glass bottle.
It shattered.
They turned.
They took him.
Said they needed an engineer. And maybe more than that maybe because he was pretty. In a world like this, pretty things are rare. Pretty things that are useful even more.
Viggo got what he wanted. Just not the way he planned.
