Akira can’t see his face but he can read the hurt in Shin’s voice well enough. “You treat me the best anyone ever has,” he blurts out, and it’s the truth. It’s maybe the real reason why he still insists they do this with the lights turned off and the curtains drawn. The naked awe in Shin’s eyes makes him feel like he’s flayed open and put on display.
That’s frightening and Akira has always been a coward. He’s trying to be better. He’s not there yet.
