He can see Rozanov’s bruises now, a constellation of yellow and purple and blue in the glow of his screen, the souvenirs of games well-won. The one on his shoulder must be from New York; the one on his hip, from Tampa. Shane wonders if any will emerge from tonight’s game when they collided against the boards in the second period, wrestling over the puck long enough for Shane to revel in the press and pressure of the hit.
He wants his mark to stick to Rozanov’s skin.
And that’s the thing, the thought he can’t escape from, the desire that he can’t outrun. As a rule, they don’t leave marks — too risky, too intimate, too personal — but Shane wants nothing more than to sink his teeth into the soft part of Rozanov’s throat. He wants to leave handprints on his ass, bite marks into the flesh of his inner thigh. He wants to scratch his name into Rozanov’s heart, into his soul, into his life.
It’s too much. Shane wants too much. He has always wanted too much.

Summary

Given the chance to grow up with rather than against each other, Shane and Ilya build a life thats steadier, safer, and far less frightening than their canon. Their rivalry fizzles before it ever has the chance to fully ignite, replaced by hockey’s most beloved “bromance", and in 2015, they find the courage to do the one thing their canon counterparts never got to do: tell the NHL and the world.
There is just one problem: No one believes them.
