Summary
What Shouto comes to realize is that Izuku's tears don't mean weakness.
They symbolize his astounding, ferocious bravery. Izuku will throw himself wholeheartedly into any situation, no matter how much it hurts him, no matter how broken he comes out of it. If Izuku has even a fraction of a chance to do something to help someone else, he'll dive in, tears streaming down his freckled cheeks. He'll endure rejection, and heartbreak, and incredible pain, and never bat an eye at the expense to himself. Izuku will wear himself so thin that he frays at the edges, and stitch pieces of himself into the broken patches of others', and he'll smile while he does it.
He'll protect anyone, but no one has ever mustered as much severity to protect him in return.
This makes Shouto want to be the person who does that.
He finds, as he lays in bed thinking of Izuku's unending support and determination, that he wants to be the one that Izuku can turn to when he finally needs someone to care for HIM.In which Shouto finds that caring about Izuku is much too easy, and he's in way too deep.

Summary
That seems to be the thing that breaks the ice between them; Bucky's never really hung out with Sam before, past being jammed into a too-small car for six hours and then two uncomfortable months in a safehouse trying not to get on each other’s last nerve. Now they’re getting lunch or coffee every few days. Sam falls asleep on Bucky’s couch three more times. Bucky joins him and Steve a couple of times on their morning run.
He doesn’t notice, is the thing; doesn’t notice how ever since Sam slept on his couch that night he’s been letting Bucky closer bit by bit, that as Bucky’s been wondering about the boundaries and structures of friendship, Sam’s been drawing in.
