The last man in the chain stands tall, a lock of black hair falling down the side of his neck and into the orange collar of the prison uniform. Beneath his hat, Inudou catches sight of the line of his jaw as the prisoner turns his head slightly as if to glance at him, and he gasps, fingers tightening where he has them interlaced behind his back, as recognition ignites within him.

He reaches out for Buccellati’s face, combs his fingers through the tangled black hair framing his jaw. Buccellati’s skin steals the remaining warmth from his hand though it doesn’t touch. The fingertips of his other hand glide across Buccellati’s exposed chest, stopping where his heart should be beating out a steady rhythm.
“Leone,” and the name is sharper now.
Abbacchio ignores him and cups his neck, resting two fingers where the pulse thrums.
Except it doesn’t.
Buccellati sighs, a fake noise with no warmth of air behind it. “I don’t even think Giorno has figured it out. Congratulations, Abbacchio.”
