What they don't know, is that X.A.N.A has evolved to the point of evading death. The Lyoko Warriors only delayed his progress, until one of them managed to seal him inside the Digital Sea. Aelita's father didn't tell them the whole story, and now the world has to face the unforgiving truth. William Dunbar must acknowledge the weight of his sacrifice.

With each bite the creatures took, their inky flesh suffered the same fate as the infected vines, splitting open, oozing blood and pus, the sickness slowly consuming them at the same speed they tore at the heart’s fallen flesh.
When the creatures finally succumbed to the rot, they writhed in the liquid and howled in pain, silenced only by death. Their corpses melted into the pool, adding new rot to the sick brine.
More squid-like creatures crawled down from the walls, rushing over to the pool to eat the ‘fresh’ meat, not realizing that it was already infected. Their fates were sealed after that first bite, dooming them to the endless cycle of draining and replenishing the pool.

A highly contagious infection quickly spreads across the world, leaving its victims as mindless beings of pure hunger and aggression, little more than walking corpses.
For the first time since becoming the Hero of Mobius, Sonic is faced with a threat he cannot beat. And Shadow, for reasons beyond his understanding, feels a connection to these beings.
