“Do you forget, mother,” Neytiri speaks, turning her head slowly towards Mo’at and beginning to rock a little in her chair, “what they have stolen from us?”
Grief surges through Mo’at, sharp, hot agony. Eytukan. Sìlwanìn. Tsu’tey. Even Toktor Grace. All of these people and more, stolen from her by the demons.
Miles makes an unhappy noise in her arms and reaches for her finger once more.

Even through the cold, you can feel that his hands are unusually warm. If he had really been trapped in the storm with the rest of you, he wouldn't have wandered for so long without gloves on, and he certainly wouldn't have the use of his fingers anymore. He breathes a sigh of relief, but there's no plume of steam to accompany it- no indication that the inside of his body is any warmer than the tundra around you, and a dreadful certainty settles within you- this isn't MacReady. But there's nowhere for you to go, and you're in no shape to defend yourself.
