    Summary

“Is the alien…dangerous?” he asks slowly.

“No! No, no he’s my friend, he’s - uh, well, the engineer of the Hail Mary,” says Grace. “Look, I’m just saying that - he’s gonna wake up soon, and we don’t need to tell him about how our first meeting went. We can gloss over the whole ‘tackle me to the ground and scare the daylights out of me’ thing. I won’t tell if you won’t.”

Simon is 90% sure this is going to come back to bite him in the form of blackmail but he nods anyways, because it sure as hell sounds like Grace is implying Simon will be allowed to stay a while longer.

Rocky sleeps through the absolute shitshow that is Simon and Grace’s first meeting. It’s probably for the best.
Despite it all, it will be the start of beautiful friendship.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“I can’t,” Simon admits. “I can’t imagine not loving you.”

This is, somehow, the wrong thing to say, because Grace’s expression crumbles.

“I - I’m sorry,” Simon says, half a plea. He’s not sure what he did wrong, but clearly Grace doesn’t want him to feel that way so - “It’s not like I expect you to love me back.”

“I do love you back, just probably not the way you want,” Grace says. “I am not in love with you. I won’t ever be. I love you the same as I love Rocky, I love you with my whole heart but that’s not-” he lets out a bitter little laugh. “That’s not enough.”

The same as I love Rocky.

Simon feels like he’s been whacked upside the head.

“Grace, what the hell are you talking about?”

Grace blinks at him in shock.

“You love me as much as you love Rocky?”

    “Y-yeah.”

“The guy you tried to die for. The guy who called you his soulmate. That Rocky.”

    “Yeah?”

“And you think that’s not enough.”

“Well, people want - kissing and sex and stuff that I just can’t give -”

“Are we gonna stop sharing a bed?”

    “No!”

“...are we gonna live together on Erid?”

    “Unless you say otherwise, yes.”

    “And you love me.”

Grace sighs. “Yeah. Yeah, I - I love you, Simon.”

He feels a little dazed. He feels drunk on it. “Yeah, Grace, I’m gonna be honest, I don’t really give a shit about the rest.”

“Oh.” Grace stares at him. He stares back.

Suddenly he has an armful of Grace clinging to him like an octopus, squeezing him tight.

“Are you crying again?” Simon asks, letting a huff of laughter that was unbearably fond.

“...No,” Grace mumbles, voice distinctly wet.

    Simon holds him tighter.

    Summary

For three hours, he’s at the beach, takes off his socks and hikes Ilyukhina’s dress up, and stands in the water. He left the cane on the shore; it hurts to let his frame bear the brunt of gravity unsupported. The reliable tide, just cool enough to chill him a little, laps at his shins.

He closes his eyes and tries to forget about himself, the familiar ache in his joints and spine. Allows himself to imagine something else.

A different truth, a hypothetical, a thought exercise.

Rocky can't bear to lose Grace. But he can bear to watch Grace wither away from a sickness easily cured by Earth medicine even less.

Grace has to make another choice.

Or: After thirteen years on Erid, Grace leaves his true home for Earth. Eva Stratt lives to see him return. Earth takes note of the changes.

    Summary

Draco can think of only one way to outclass his pleat-front-khaki-wearing politician ex, and that’s by making headlines with an obvious upgrade. And who better to upstage the cheating bastard than the Saviour of the World, Harry Potter himself? Sure, Potter is a little rough around the edges in ripped jeans, a rumpled tartan shirt, and a permanent scowl. Draco reckons a haircut and a shave wouldn’t hurt, either. But Potter is also in need of a Healer willing to keep his secrets, and Draco is just the man for the job. It’s a perfectly reasonable exchange. They need only attend a couple parties arm-in-arm, smile nicely for the paparazzi, and tolerate each other long enough to convince everyone they’re smitten. In return, Draco will keep Potter alive and in one piece.

But it isn’t long before Draco realises he might be in over his head, because Potter is ten tonnes of trouble packed into a leather jacket, and seems keen on hurtling himself towards death on the back of a flying motorbike. And that says nothing of Potter’s penchant for fire-breathing beasts and things that bite.

Ah well, at least they’ll have some fun while it lasts. After all, Draco always did like a bit of danger.

    Summary

Draco Malfoy doesn’t believe in healing. Not really. He believes in muscle memory, in silence, in doing his job until there’s nothing left of him to do it.

By night, he works the trauma ward at St. Mungo’s—lead senior resident, spell-slinger, ghost in white robes. By day, he studies medicine in a Muggle university across town, feeding some unnamed, bottomless guilt. He has no weekends. No friends outside the ER. No one who asks if he’s okay.

Then Harry Potter starts showing up again.
    Bleeding. Smiling. Bleeding more.

It’s always the ER. It’s always Draco who fixes him.
The staff call it routine. Draco knows better. This is how things start breaking.

And maybe, if he’s not careful—how things might finally begin to mend.
