Summary
Marinette never really wanted to be a superhero, for the record, but the choice wasn’t hers. And when she sees a car headed for Alya the day Stoneheart appears, that’s not a choice either—that’s a death sentence for a girl with no powers, just a phone and too much curiosity for her own good.
Marinette becomes Ladybug, and she moves.
In hindsight, Marinette supposes the car crushes her skull, her lungs—something like that. She thinks she remembers hitting the ground, but that could be wishful thinking, the desire for a sense of certainty that will always be out of reach. It doesn’t really matter, as much as she’d like to think so.
The bottom line is that on her first day on the job, Ladybug dies. And then she gets back up.

The room was hot and Lando’s race suit was slipping down his hips where he had let it swing after being unzipped. Oscar was still, little puffs of air being released on Lando’s neck and the feeling was bringing Lando close to tears.
He needed a nest and a safe space to lay down for a couple hours like yesterday.
Kim made a questioning noise, finally looking up from his phone and he tilted his head at Lando wrapping himself around Oscar.
“Lando? Is Oscar alright?”

Oscar is leaning against the garage doors, the dim lighting accentuating the shape of his toned shoulders. Lando tries not to stare at the tight stretch of his stained white t-shirt getting pulled taut across his biceps as he crosses his arms.
Lando scoffs, leaning out of the open window. “Mate, some dickhead pushed me off the road. Wasn’t my fault.”
“What exactly did you do to piss people off enough to push you off the road?”
Lando blinks at him.
“No, nevermind, I don’t think I need to know that,” Oscar sighs, a hand pinching the skin between his eyes as he turns into the garage. “Come in.”
