    Ilya turned his attention back to the loaves and let out a low whistle when he saw the price.

    “This is expensive bread.” He said out loud, to whoever was in the kitchen.

    “You can go to the corner store for cheap bread. These are artisan loaves.” They said back. Ilya grinned to himself, keeping his back turned so they wouldn’t see if they looked. It definitely wasn’t a Boston accent. The newspaper had said Shane Hollander was from Canada. He hoped this was him. His voice had been level and annoyed, as if Ilya was an irritating wasp who had flown into the store.

    A few vignettes from Ilya's POV to sit alongside my fic Early Mornings. It will probably make sense as a stand alone, if you don't want any plot and all you care about is Ilya being loved by a version of Shane Hollander that is really good at baking bread. It is definitely not a full story though.

    “What…” licks his lips and watches as Rozanov leans forward, like he can’t help but try to be closer, “What do you want?”

    A smile, slow and wicked, sharp canines that Shane wants at his throat.

    “I told you, to be boyfriend.”

    Or: In a world where there was no CCM hookup and they're just rivals, Shane has come out as gay, and Ilya isn't going to let that opportunity pass him by, leading Shane to a journey of discovering self-worth, fighting shitty team dynamics, winning the Stanley Cup, autistic meltdowns and maybe even leaving Montreal.

    He hastily clicked open the folder, his eyes barely glancing through the dozen or so shots there, vaguely registering a picture with a sunset background from his condo balcony, something of him laughing, a picture of him working at his laptop with his glasses on...

    The director called him again, and he shook his head, the photos blurring. Whatever. It would have to do.

    He clicked "select all," then the messages icon, then Rozanov's name. Hit send.
