The supplication shocks Mydei still, immediately eliciting a vocal complaint from his mate. Letting his jaws clamp over such a vulnerable part of Phainon is much too dangerous while they're mating—he could easily rip his throat out while Phainon's body is bouncing around.
But he also can't leave his mate wanting when he asks so honestly for something.

When Phainon's heat takes him by surprise, he's lucky that Mydei's already there and fully willing to take care of him in any way possible—even if he's acting like a brat and begging to be claimed.

Phainon scoffs, lip pulled back in a snarl that is more endearing than it is intimidating. "Does playing with your food usually make it taste better?"
Mydei hums, pretending to actually consider Phainon's question. "That depends," he rumbles, voice pitched to a depth he usually reserves for his more stubborn quarry.
"On?" His voice is strained again. Forcing the word out before he swallows dryly, eyes searching—is he in danger, or is the alpha simply toying with him? It lends itself well to what he's asking, he supposes.
"Whether it will heighten the thrill of the chase."
It's just Phainon's luck that a lion wanders into his personal sanctuary, almost drowns, and then—for whatever reason—keeps coming back.

Summary
When Phainon finds himself in the world of his favorite doomed romance novel, he makes it his goal to get Prince Mydeimos a happy ending with Preistess Castorice.
Unfortunately for Phainon, it doesn't seem like the prince would cooperate with him on this goal.
Note: Chapter 7 & 8 have sex scenes, if you are uncomfortable with that but want to read the sfw stuff, please skip them.
