Summary
Daemon AU. Daemons are reflections of ones soul. They were wonderful things.
Grace had been forced to change, the shape of his soul bent the day he was forced on that ship. Finally settled on Erid should have been a time to get back to some sort of normal. When the Eridian space team find and bring down a clearly human made ship with someone alive inside that new normal was about the change.

Summary
His vision swims, refusing to focus, but he can make out a vaguely human sort of shape, all in red. It’s not the dark, threatening red of the ocean he’d been abandoned in. Instead, it’s overwhelmingly bright, a beacon, a promise of safety.
“You're alive.” Finally, he manages to blink away enough of the blood and general fatigue to recognize a man’s face within the red helmet. In the darkness, Simon can't make out the color of the astronaut's eyes, but they're soft and fixed on him.
In which Simon is rescued after escaping the ruins of his own universe. With help from a clumsy, but persistently kind scientist and an alien he's just glad isn't eel shaped, Simon starts to believe he can finally put the past behind him.
Unfortunately, he's not all that made it through.

Thomas nodded. “That's right Bruce, but to Mother Gotham, bats, as well as birds, are her protectors. Many believe that when Mother Gotham is in danger, she will call upon her protectors to restore balance.”
Bruce squeezed his blanket, leaning into his mother. “Are they nice?” Thomas smiled a soft smile, leaning forward and placing a kiss on Bruce's head. “Of course they are, they're protectors after all.”
Bruce had forgotten that story, what five year old would? He had forgotten it for three years, blissfully living his life.
Until he was on the other end of that gun, and it fired, right through his heart.
His life was never the same after that.
