“Lonely?” Is all the stranger says, a cigarette hanging limply between his lips. Healy quirks an eyebrow up, unsure if he's genuinely being hit on. The stranger tilts his head toward the hallway that Healy had just been down, teeth tight around the cigarette in a grin. “I can help with that.”
“How about I be the judge of that, pretty boy?” Healy doesn’t even mean to call him that; it slips out like water from his lips. And maybe it’s the red lights near the stage, but Healy swears his cheeks flush.

Instead of meeting March with a fist and a spiral fracture, Healy meets him doing a job in a dark gay bar in a private room.

There’s a new omega in town.
Driver can taste it at the back of his teeth, coating his sinuses and throat like taffy doused in nectar — sugary sweet, floral, dripping in honey and lily and everything the heaven surely has to offer, if such a place even exists.

The implications in that one word. Daniel’s near certain the kid doesn’t mean safe as in a safe bet, a sure thing. He means that he feels safe. And the fact that the kid is finding safety here of all places– in an old journalist’s arms, in his own professor’s bed, without any defined relationship. Is he speaking about emotional safety? Or is he speaking about physical safety?
Daniel’s afraid it’s the latter.
