“I see that you two already know each other.” Lettuce steps smoothly into view, those flat green eyes sliding to him, slow and calm, and Baablu has to do a double take, because what? How has Boosfer gotten the goddamn Law on his side?
There’s something immensely unfair about it all, Baablu thinks.
“I wish we didn’t,” he hisses, winding his tail around his leg before he accidentally hits it against the wall too hard and gives himself yet another bruise that won’t fade.
Boosfer’s gaze, still strangely sharp and almost knowing, lingers on him for another second, before it finally flicks away, something in the line of his shoulders unwinding, posture relaxing.
Somehow, that doesn’t make the growing feeling, heavy and uncomfortable, that something’s wrong, off, dissipate.
Or: Boosfer’s acting weird. And why is he a Law prison guard again?

Then, down that dusty road, he saw strolling up the street what must’ve been the biggest damn horse he'd ever seen. Its steps were slow but sturdy, and Branzy could hear a light rumble each time one of its hooves lazily met the ground. It easily was 6 feet tall at the shoulders and its massive, high held neck only added to its grand stature. Its rider was equally intimidating, tall and lean and bathed in shadows. Their loose poncho danced behind them, caught by a breeze.
Branzy couldn’t see their face, but from the chill that crawled down his spine, he was sure they were looking back at him.

Summary
Branzy didn't remember much of the incident, though what he did remember was engraved into his head. He moved away a while ago, trying to escape a stalker who nearly killed him upon their first meeting. He thought he was free, that this depressing life would remain quiet. He never imagined it coming back.. those gifts. It was what you would offer to a god, not someone you "loved."
"Stay in the light." That's what he was told, yet he found himself back in the dark.
