“Please, Katsuki,” Izuku says quieter now, sinking back against the car door, “I cannot do this with you right now. I just can’t. We can’t change what’s already happened and, frankly, I wouldn’t want to. I’m glad you’re able to live your dream and-”
“But what if I’m not?” Katsuki interrupts him, a grim look on his face, “What if I’m fucking tired of this shit? What if I’m tired of people picking and prodding at me all day? What if I’m tired of reading shit about me online? I love acting, don’t get me wrong. The damn thing’s my passion but what if I love you more?”
“Katsuki…” The word comes out slowly and carefully from Izuku’s mouth, just barely sneaking past his lips.
Katsuki replies, a bit more confident than Izuku himself, “Izuku.”
They stare into each other’s eyes for a little while, neither of them breaking eye contact and neither of them really wanting to.

OR, Katsuki comes back to Japan for the holidays every year and makes sure to spend as much of it as possible with Izuku but, this time, something changes.

"What if we're not late bloomers?" Deku had asked him once when they were very young. “What if we don’t get our quirks? What if our quirks never come for our whole lives?”
Katsuki hadn't been able to answer, then. All he'd known was that they'd be able to do anything together, even if the hero business tried to spit them out just because they were missing bits and pieces. That was until Deku'd told him the truth, anyway. That he'd been hiding a quirk for ten years and Katsuki had just been stupid and trusting.
He doesn't get into UA. Deku leaves him behind and lives the dream alone. Katsuki picks up modelling and turns out to be surprisingly good at it, and after a while he thinks maybe he can make peace with never becoming a hero. This ain't a bad life, after all. There are stalkers and endless reporters but maybe he can make this work.
For all of six years, anyway. Then he figures out his new neighbour has green eyes and cute freckles. And then, Katsuki thinks, maybe god hates him.

Yaomomo sighs. “We’ve got a little bit of a situation, Bakugou. Ashi—uhm, somebody might have accidentally signed you up for that modelling gig.”
Katsuki holds up a hand. "So what you’re telling me here," he says, "is that you told Calvin Klein I would model for them. In my underwear.”
Ashido sinks behind a desk to hide. “Yes.”
(The thing is, they really do need the money. And Katsuki's technically the leader of this bunch of morons, so he finds himself taking the job even though his pride will never recover. And even though nobody thought to tell him that he'd be working with his ex-boyfriend. You know, the cute freckled guy from high school who went and broke his heart.
So, yeah. This whole situation kind of sucks.)
