It’s not a relationship, at least not in any romantic sense. Instead, they’ve settled into a kind of friends-with-benefits thing (even though their friendship is tentative and the benefits infrequent at best), a way to work out the tension and trauma that always comes with their line of work. She’s too nervous to bring up the fact that she wants it to be more than that.
