Regulus was starting to hate that myth. It sounded more like a horror story to him. He was a firm believer that Orpheus was an idiot who couldn’t have just marched through the voices and the doubts to get what he wanted. How hard was it to follow instructions? Did he not trust her love for him? If there is no trust, can it still be called love?
If you ask him, Eurydice would have been better off in the Underworld — for what else was waiting for her back in her old life? Empty cupboards that gathered dust and cobwebs? A fireplace that has long forgotten the feel of warmth, much less the weight of firewood? A bed so stiff, she’d be better off sleeping on the ground?
What exactly could be worth suffering through hunger, poverty, and discomfort?
Love?
It was stupid. So so stupid.
