Summary
Fang Runin was dead. She knew that, her soul had been tormented for what felt like an eternity with a neverending poppy field.
But suddenly it was 10 years later, and she woke up in a post second civil war Nikan; in a body that looked exactly like her own, but it was not her own; a body where the fire has returned to running through her blood, where she can call it again, yet no body knows her, knows who she is, expect one person.
Chen Kitay does. He recognizes her. He's here with her. There is not a world where the two can exist without each other, the bonds of their souls transcended death and reincarnation.
Rin has options, technically, people didn't recognize her. She could run away, hide in the southern forest, seek refugee in the Hinterlands; but seeing how the Hesperains have taken over her country worst than she can imagine, she can't run, she's never ran from a fight, whether she could win it or not. Maybe this is the Gods (and the person who sacrificed their soul for hers) way of telling her to try again; though there is only one way she could possibly succeed. Rin can't fight against him this time, she needs Nezha on her side.

Summary
Fang Runin (or Mai'rinnen Tregnsin, a name long left in the past) had known that she was going to be reaped; that he cousin had doomed her to death in that arena. She had expected that she had accepted that. What she didn't expect was Yin Nezha and what he brought her.
He brought her the opportunity of rebellion, to take the name of the Phoenix, to burn this country and every one of her enemies. That just becomes a bit harder when she suddenly becomes lost in who is an enemy, and who is an ally, and what she was supposed to do with the people that she led through all of this.

Rin had done a lot of stupid things in her life, many of which she wouldn't consider herself regretting, but there were two though. Two that she regretted so bad, she had a feeling she would take those regrets to her grave.
1. Not destroying her uterus when given the chance.
2. Choosing Yin Nezha as her anchor.Now here she sat a wife to the man who stabbed her, daughter in law to a man who betrayed her, a Hesperian lab rat, with no access to her God.
The Hesperian's get bored with Nezha and her soon, and it's not like they could cut them up quite yet, they do need something new to though. What about a child? A true bridge between the Dragon and Phoenix. Something that should keep the Hesperian's entertained long enough.

This fic was written for me I fear.
No I am not a figure skater, I am however a ballerina and someone who struggles with self harm, so I will take a ballerina Venka and self-harming Rin as my representations. Not to mention the author does just such a beautiful way at portraying Rin’s bad habits.
This fic is magnificent overall, it being from Nezha’s pov is one of those reasons as we rarely get fics and his pov. Not to mention that means we get to read about how down bad he is constantly, and I don’t think I even need to talk about the characterization.

Reading this to break myself from the constant angst that is the original series.
The whimsy gives me the best studio ghibli vibes, and I love it. And while there is some angst in there, I really think it does the slice of life angst well as well, giving it the perfect nice feeling to read.
Jiang and Rin's relationship as well is one of the best part of this whole fic. Mainly because it is so well balanced and in character, I love seeing him being able to love his daughter.
