Takes place during the first episode of the show following how Rawls finds out about what McNulty has been up to over at the courthouse.

Rawls quickly stood up. “Don’t bullsh*t me!” he almost shouted, loudly enough for Cole to have heard it, as if he had had enough of McNulty’s games.
McNulty immediately defended himself, not really knowing why Rawls would think that he was making this up. “I’m not! I . . . I think he likes-”
Rawls interrupted him as he walked over and slamed the door shut and McNulty quickly turned in his seat. “To have eyes and ears inside the CID? Yeah, I bet. You traitorous little f**k. You think he can protect you from me?”
“I need protecting?” McNulty tried to ask it lightly, as a joke, an absurdity, but part of him was actually worried.
Rawls turned back to him and looked dead serious. “If you’re going against me, you will,” he promised gravely.
